The fear of failure is perfectly natural, and everybody experiences it from time to time. It’s a biological response to possible danger that helps to keep us safe. But when it becomes unmanageable, it can get in the way of regular life much to the detriment of your own happiness. It’s important to deal with this fear in a healthy way so that you can overcome it and achieve your goals. Playing it safe has its benefits, but it’s important to put things into perspective. Think about all of the great achievements made in history and right now – they don’t come from playing it safe. Everybody has to take a risk every once in a while to extend their boundaries. It’s only when you do this and you can reach your full potential and become the person you want. So don’t deny your fear or elected overcome you. Look at it in the eye so that you can understand it, and eventually conquer it.

Be Prepared – one of the things that makes people the most afraid is the unknown. This principle can be applied to anything you encounter in your life. Whether it’s a new person, job opportunity, or giving up financial security to pursue something better there is an element of the unknown involves with all of these things. Being practical can benefit you tremendously especially when you organize yourself with the right way. Whatever task you plan on tackling, try to prepare yourself as best as possible. Do your research and try to turn the murky unknown into a clearer picture.

Risk versus reward – in many cases the greatest things in life come with the most risk. But we cannot achieve them if we don’t take that first step forward. It’s important to weigh the risk versus reward in any type of situation. At the same time, you can’t let that risk overwhelm you. Think about what it takes to overcome any challenges, and whether or not it will be worth it. The honest with yourself because otherwise it can be easy to talk yourself out of taking that risk in the first place.

How bad can it be? – There are many feelings associated with failure such as embarrassment, anxiety, and possible depression. These feelings can be quite powerful when you are in the middle of a situation or dealing with the immediate repercussions. But how much of it is in your head and how bad is it really? Think about the worst-case scenario and how it will impact your life on a long-term basis. In many cases, we build up walls or barriers in our own mind that are far worse than real-life consequences. It’s important to be honest about the situation and ask yourself what might actually happen when you try.

You only learn when you make mistakes – succeeding right away is a wonderful feeling and it makes you feel good about yourself. But if everything comes to easy, you’ll stop growing and learning in the most important ways. It’s rather ironic, but a person can only learn real lessons after they have failed first. There might be some people in the public eye who might seem like overnight successes, chances are they have dealt with airfare of rejection. Making mistakes allows you to adjust your approach and to figure out the best way to go from here. Understanding this fact can help you to embrace the times when you fail is eventually they will benefit you.

Cover your bases – use your fear of failure to motivate yourself to work harder. Come up with as many plans as possible so that you’ll be able to figure out how to proceed if you happen to fail. Having backup plans and covering your bases helps to relieve a lot of the anxiety associated with trying something in the first place. It’s a lot easier to make an attempt when you know you have other options after possible failure.

Discuss your fear – a lot of people keep their fear hidden because they’re embarrassed that it exists in the first place. But in many cases, if you bring up your fear in conversation, you’ll find that other people share it as well. All it takes is that first step to talk about your apprehensions and fears in order to reveal that other people feel the same way. You should always know that you aren’t alone in any feeling you have about a certain subject is mirrored by countless people. Being able to talk openly can go a long way to making you feel like everyone else. And as an added bonus, sometimes you’ll be able to brainstorm a workable solution for whatever you have to deal with. Knowing that you aren’t alone helps you to learn how to be more confident in a variety of situations.

Just do it – sometimes you just have to take that first step without thinking too much about it. If you’re the type of person who will talk yourself out of risks, then don’t give yourself a chance. In many cases, going full ahead is the best way to go, and you’ll often find that you’ll be able to adjust to whatever happens. Your fear is not going to kill you and it will eventually subside when you jump into a situation and react accordingly. Everything is harder the first time but you’ll find that the human brain is incredibly adaptable within a short period of time. You can bet that the next time you do something, it won’t be nearly as hard and you’ll have the benefit of experience.
